About the event

In today's dynamic work environment, understanding and addressing mental health is essential for fostering a healthy and productive workplace. This training, led by Debbie Fitzgerald, is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to recognize, address, and support mental health issues in the workplace.  

Debbie Fitzgerald holds a BA in Sociology from Missouri Southern State University. A MS in Psychology and an Ed.S. in School Psychology from Pittsburg State University. Debbie is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a National Certified Counselor with the National Board of Certified Counselors and holds American Association of Suicidology Crisis Worker Certification. She served as Program Manager for the FEMA Community Crisis Counseling Program grant, “Healing Joplin,” after the 2011 disaster and later with the “Show Me Hope,” flood response. She is a certified Question, Persuade and Refer trainer and a Gold Level Signs of Suicide champion. She helped form the original SW MO CIT Council with Joplin Police in 2008. She has worked in a variety of behavioral settings since 1983 and is currently the Director of Crisis Services, at Ozark Center, in Joplin, Mo. The Ozark Center crisis team is one of seven Missouri 988 call centers and additionally serves as a Tier 2 veteran hotline call center. Debbie’s passion is suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention.

Participants will learn the following:

• What is mental health and the most common conditions

• Ways it can impact the workplace

• Ways to approach, intervene and support employees

• Ways to remove stigma 

• Ideas to implement organizational change  

• How to refer and community resources available 

Date: April 4, 2024 from 8:00 am to 10:00 am.  Light breakfast and networking from 8:00 am to 8:30 am. 

Location: In person (light breakfast provided) at Freeman Health System Business Center, Conference Rooms (enter on back side of building), 3220 McClelland Blvd., Joplin, MO
